Frequently asked questions

What should I expect during my first physical therapy appointment?

plus-iconminus-icon

We can't wait to meet you for your first session. Here's a quick rundown of what to expect so you feel comfy and prepared:

Arrival Time & Paperwork:

Please come 15 minutes early to settle in. Bring any completed paperwork you've downloaded from our website. If you haven't done this yet, no worries—we've got you covered!

Do I Need a Referral?

Got a referral for physical therapy? Awesome, bring it along! If not, just let us know when you book your first appointment. Sometimes, a referral isn't even necessary.

Meet Your Therapist:

You'll be evaluated by our highly trained physical therapist. They're really good listeners and will chat with you about a few things:

  • Your medical history
  • Current injuries or limitations
  • What makes your pain better or worse
  • How your condition affects your day-to-day life
  • Your goals for physical therapy
  • Any medication, tests, or procedures you've had recently

Let's Assess:

Your therapist will then conduct a hands-on assessment. This could include:

  • Feeling the problem area to check for swelling or inflammation
  • Testing your range of motion and joint flexibility
  • Assessing your muscle strength
  • Checking your nerve function if needed
  • Special tests to explore any additional concerns
  • Evaluating your posture

Your Personalized Plan:

After your assessment, we'll brainstorm a game plan together. This will outline:

  • How often to visit us
  • How long your therapy might last
  • Exercises to do at home
  • Important things you should know to get better
  • Short-term and long-term goals

Your treatment plan is a team effort. We'll collaborate with you, your therapist, and your doctor to ensure you're on the best path to recovery.

Looking forward to helping you get back to your best self!

What should I wear for my physical therapy session?

plus-iconminus-icon

Good question! The clothing you choose can make a significant difference in the effectiveness of your physical therapy session at RehabSpot.

For Upper Back Treatment:

Wearing a tank top is ideal for upper back issues, as it allows our therapists unobstructed access to your back area for a thorough evaluation.

For Knee and Hip Issues:

Choose shorts for optimal evaluation and treatment of knee and hip conditions. This makes it easier for our physical therapists to perform range-of-motion tests and strength assessments.

For Low Back Therapy:

Loose-fitting shirts and pants are the way to go for addressing low back concerns. This type of clothing permits our experts to evaluate and treat your low back properly.

To sum it up, your comfort and ease of access are crucial for a successful physical therapy appointment. Dressing appropriately ensures that we can conduct a comprehensive evaluation and create an effective treatment plan tailored to your needs.

Look forward to partnering with you on your journey to wellness at RehabSpot.

How long do physical therapy sessions last?

One-on-One Care:

Rest assured, all your sessions will be one-on-one with a qualified Doctor of Physical Therapy.

First Session Details:

Treatment Plans Tailored for You:

We'll work together to decide on the best treatment strategy, one designed to give you the fastest and most effective results.

Cost Variables:

The cost of treatment will vary based on the nature of your injury and diagnosis. Acute conditions often improve after just 2-6 sessions, while more chronic issues may take weeks or even months to resolve.

What do physical therapists do?

plus-iconminus-icon

Ever wondered what physical therapists actually do? You might have heard stories from friends about how physical therapy helped with their back pain or recovery from an injury. Let's break it down for you.

Areas of Expertise:

Physical therapists are experts in movement and function. They help people recover from various conditions, like orthopedic issues such as low back pain or knee surgeries, as well as assist stroke patients in regaining their mobility.

More Than Treatment:

We don't just treat illnesses or injuries. Prevention is also a big part of what we do. We consult in work settings to make workplaces safer and even work with athletes to prevent injuries.

Therapeutic Techniques:

Physical therapy isn't just about exercises. We use a range of methods including hands-on care, joint mobilization, and even technologies like ultrasound. These approaches are designed to help you move better and live a fuller life.

Education:

We also educate you on how to manage your condition independently. This can include specific exercises or lifestyle changes you can make to improve your health.

Who Can Provide Physical Therapy:

Remember, only qualified physical therapists or physical therapist assistants under the supervision of physical therapists can provide this specialized care.

Insurance and Access:

Most insurance plans cover physical therapy to some extent, and in all 50 states, you can access physical therapy directly without needing a doctor's referral in many cases.

So, whether you're recovering from an injury, looking to prevent one, or wanting to optimize your movement and overall function, we at RehabSpot are here to help you every step of the way.

Why are people referred to physical therapy?

plus-iconminus-icon

Wondering why your doctor might refer you to physical therapy? Generally, it's about improving your ability to move and reducing pain that may be limiting your daily activities.

Common Reasons for Referral:

  • Difficulty in body movements like bending or sleeping on a certain side.
  • Issues with basic activities like walking, getting out of a chair, or even playing sports.

What We Address:

We treat these movement dysfunctions and the associated discomfort to help you regain optimal mobility.

So, if you're struggling with any movement limitations that are affecting your life, physical therapy at RehabSpot could be the solution you need to get back to your normal routine.

Do I need a physician referral for treatment and what is direct access?

plus-iconminus-icon

Ever wondered if you need a doctor's note to start physical therapy at RehabSpot? Good news: you often don't.

Direct Access in Florida:

In Florida, you can see a physical therapist without a doctor's referral thanks to something called direct access.

Benefits of Direct Access:

  • Immediate Treatment: You don’t have to wait weeks to start your treatment; you can get evaluated and begin therapy on day one.
  • Cost-Effective: Research indicates that direct access to physical therapy services can lower healthcare costs for patients.

What if Physical Therapy Isn't Right for Me?

If it turns out that physical therapy isn't the best course of action for your condition, we'll refer you to the appropriate medical specialist.

So if you're experiencing movement issues or pain, you can directly book an appointment with us at RehabSpot to start your journey to better health.

What will I have to do after physical therapy?

plus-iconminus-icon

Wondering what life looks like after your physical therapy sessions are over?

Home Exercise Program:

Most people will continue with a home exercise program tailored to their needs.

Gym Exercise Program:

For some, a gym-based program may be beneficial to keep up the progress.

Setting Goals:

It's crucial to discuss your goals with your physical therapist so they can craft a personalized plan for you.

The road to recovery doesn't end when your sessions do. Maintaining the gains you've made is a vital part of the healing process, and we at RehabSpot will equip you with the tools you need for long-term success.

What is the “No Surprise Act Notice”?

plus-iconminus-icon

Curious about the costs of your medical care at RehabSpot? You have a right to know, thanks to the No Surprise Act.

Good Faith Estimate:

Whether you're uninsured or simply not using insurance for your treatment, you're entitled to receive a written "Good Faith Estimate" outlining the expected costs. This includes not just the therapy sessions but also related expenses like tests, medications, and any required equipment.

When to Get One:

Make sure to ask for this estimate at least one business day before your scheduled service. This helps you understand what you'll be responsible for financially.

Disputing Bills:

If you end up receiving a bill that's at least $400 more than the estimated amount, you have the right to dispute it.

At RehabSpot, we are committed to transparency and aim to keep you well-informed so there are no surprises when it comes to your care and its cost.

Why choose cash-based RehabSpot Physical Therapy over an insurance-based clinic?

plus-iconminus-icon

Wondering why you might consider paying out-of-pocket at RehabSpot instead of using your insurance at another clinic? Here's why:

Quality Over Quantity:

Insurance-based clinics often rely on assistants and less-experienced clinicians to treat multiple patients simultaneously. At RehabSpot, your treatment is one-on-one, led by highly qualified therapists.

Immediate Treatment:

No need to wait for a physician's referral or for an available appointment slot. At RehabSpot, we can start treating you right away.

Focused, Effective Care:

Our hands-on, individualized approach has proven to yield faster and better outcomes. You won't be given "cookie-cutter" exercises that you could easily do at home.

Fewer Visits, Better Results:

We aim to get you back to your best with fewer sessions, saving you both time and money in the long run.

Value for Money:

Although there's an out-of-pocket expense, most of our patients find that the quality and efficiency of our care make it a worthwhile investment in their health.

At RehabSpot, our priority is to provide you with high-quality, efficient care that gets you back to feeling your best as quickly as possible.

Can I get reimbursed if I pay cash for my therapy at RehabSpot?

plus-iconminus-icon

Absolutely, you can! After wrapping up your treatment, we'll hand over a detailed master reimbursement receipt. This document contains all the information your insurance company needs for you to file a claim.

If you haven't met your annual deductible, your payment should count towards it. And if you've already met your deductible, your insurance should review the claim and reimburse you for a portion of the cost. Rest assured, we make the process as smooth as possible for you to get reimbursed.

Why isn't my pain going away after physical therapy?

plus-iconminus-icon

If you're not experiencing relief from your pain, there could be a variety of factors at play. Often, the root cause of the pain may not have been correctly identified yet. The key to alleviating discomfort is pinpointing the real issue that's triggering your symptoms. Once we identify it, we can tailor a treatment plan specifically designed to address and resolve your issue. Rest assured, our team is dedicated to helping you get back to feeling your best.

What is a deductible and why is it important for my physical therapy treatment?

plus-iconminus-icon

Understanding the financial aspects of your healthcare is crucial, especially when navigating the increasingly complicated landscape of health insurance. In simple terms, a deductible is the amount you must pay out-of-pocket before your insurance kicks in and covers the remaining costs. Deductibles are an important consideration when seeking physical therapy services or any other healthcare treatment.

Why does this matter for you? Deductibles have been rising steadily, and it's not uncommon to see amounts ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 or more. If you're dealing with an issue like low back pain and have a high-deductible plan, the cost of conventional care—comprising physician visits, diagnostic tests, medications, and regular physical therapy—can quickly add up to $3,000 to $5,000.

At RehabSpot, our goal is to offer you high-quality care that leads to better outcomes in fewer visits, at a substantially lower out-of-pocket cost. For example, your entire treatment plan with us may cost you between $750 and $1,800. This could result in a 50% reduction in costs compared to conventional care, while also saving you time.

In addition to deductibles, don't forget about co-pays, which are fixed amounts you pay for each visit, and coinsurance, a percentage of the overall bill you'll be responsible for after your treatment is completed. Knowing these numbers upfront can help you make a more informed decision about your healthcare options. At RehabSpot, we aim to give you the most value for your time and money.

What languages do you speak?

plus-iconminus-icon

We speak both English and Spanish.
